SANDAKAN: A man was yesterday jailed for two years and fined RM10,000 in default 20 months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court here for reckless driving that resulted in a fatal accident which claimed the lives of two women 13 years ago.
Chia Ket Chun, 31, pleaded guilty before magistrate Mohd Zairi Zainal Abidin to a charge under Section 41(1) Road Transportation Act 1987.
He committed the offence at Sibuga Road, Mile 5, around 7.45pm on August 28, 1999 when he was 18 years old.
According to the facts of the case, Chia was on his way to Taman Sibuga and had overtaken a car at a corner when he collided head-on with a van.
In the incident, two female passengers in the van died of head injuries while two male passengers were seriously injured.
Investigations revealed that the accident occurred as a result of the driver’s impatience.
The case was prosecuted by Inspector Kumaran Nyanasagaran.
