BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: A local man who has consumed controlled drugs and in possession of an incriminating apparatus was fined B$2,200 or risk serving four months behind bars if the fine is not settled by September 26 this year, Borneo Bulletin reported.

Senior Magistrate Pengiran Masni gave the grace period to Zulkifle bin Mohamad who had pleaded guilty to the consumption of methylemphetamine and possession of a modified test tube containing traces of the same Class ‘A’ drug.

The Prosecuting Officer of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Pg Othman bin Pg Haji Ali, informed the court that Zulkifle was arrested as he came out of a car at a house in Kampong Peninjau Jerudong on the afternoon of July 18, 2011.

NCB officers had suspected the defendant of drug-related activities but he had no drugs on him at the time of the arrest.

However, the defendant had surrendered the apparatus and was brought along to the NCB headquarters for further investigation.

The defendant’s urine sample tested positive for drugs, while the apparatus, after analysis by the Department of Scientific Services, was found to contain traces of the same drug.
