New moon sighting for Ramadhan next Thursday

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Brunei Darussalam will be sighting the new moon on July 19 to determine when the fasting month of Ramadhan begins. If the new moon is sighted next Thursday, the first day of Ramadhan will fall on July 20 (Friday), or else the next day, Borneo Bulletin reported.

Syari’e judges, as well as officers from the Syariah Court, Ministry of Religious Affairs, State Mufti’s Department and Survey Department, will be stationed at several vantage points for the sighting of the new moon.

The sighting of the new moon will take place at Bukit Shahbandar in Brunei-Muara District, Bukit Agok Shooting Range and Bukit Ambok in Tutong District, and Bukit Lumut in Belait District.

The result of the sighting will be announced the same evening.
