STA confident of three gold in national Taekwondo championship

SIBU: Sarawak Taekwondo Association (STA) is sending 12 exponents to spearhead its challenge in the National Taekwondo Championship finals to be held at Cheras Badminton Academy Hall in Kuala Lumpur this weekend.

Five of the exponents are from Sibu while the rest are from Kuching.

STA’s Deputy President Dato Lau Keung Chai said the state exponents are expected to bring back home at least three gold medals.

“Taekwondo is Sarawak’s forte… we are optimistic that they would return with impressive results,” he said during the state colour handing over ceremony to the Sibu exponents led by their team manager Chew Mei Ling.

Sibu’s exponents are namely Lau Lee lee (women’s middleweight), Tu Wen King (women’s heavyweight), Wong Kiang Teck (men’s featherweight), Wong Leh Bing (men’s middleweight) and Ling Chuong Hung (men’s middleweight).

Lau, who is also the advisor of Sibu Rejang Taekwondo Club (RTC), said the club had been on the roll since its establishment two years ago.

He welcomed those interested in taekwondo to enroll for lessons being held its newly training venue at the first floor of Sarawak Teachers Training premises at Wong King Huo Road (nearby Medan Mall).

“Those interested to take up taekwondo are most welcomed with classes being held on every Tuesday and Saturday, starting from 7pm,” he added.
