TWO SILVERS AND A GOLD: Amelia Su shows her medals on the last day of the competition.

KUANTAN: Amelia Su Leh Wern remained steadfast in the determination to become the best in Sukma XV and even putting off the visit to her ill-stricken father in Sibu.

In late May, Amelia learnt that her father suffered a stroke and was semi-paralysed but she was unable to return home after having joined fellow teammates for the training stint to China from May 29 to June 26.

Upon her return to Kuching, the strong-willed 18-year-old did let her personal matters get into the way and continued with the final training schedule at the state Elite Centre for Wushu before flying with the team to Kuantan on July 9.

After winning the women’s nan quan silver on Wednesday and women’s dao shu silver on Thursday, Amelia went on to strike gold in the women’s gun shu yesterday. She topped the women’s gun shu contest with the score of 9.50 points to beat Ho Jong Xian and Loh Ying Ting into second and third placing respectively.

“I am dedicating all of these medals to my dad and family members who are the source of my inspiration…I will soon return to Sibu to see my father after this,” said the courageous wushu exponent who showed a heart of steel in pursuing glory for Sarawak.

At previous Sukma in Melaka, Amelia only won the gold in gun shu and a silver in chang quan.
