1,936 Politeknik KK graduates

KOTA KINABALU: Politeknik Kota Kinabalu’s achievement in several fields, including co-curriculum, last year was the best for the higher learning institute.

According to its Director Wan Mohamad Nasir Wan Abdul Rahman, in the academic aspect, Politeknik KK scored its best performance with a 94 percentage passes for its students in the June 2011 intake.

“The contributing factors of this success are the cooperation of all staff, competent and dedicated lecturers as well as the comprehensive and fully equipped infrastructure which provides students with an enjoyable and conducive learning environment,” he said at Politeknik Kota Kinabalu’s 16th Convocation held at UMS here yesterday.

Head of State Tun Haji Juhar Haji Mahiruddin graced the first day convocation for 1,936 graduates.

Wan Mohamad also disclosed that other than the polytechnic’s academic achievement, its students’ presence was also seen in sporting events, community activities and co-curriculum when they won several competitions at the Borneo, Higher Learning Ministry and national levels.

“They were also exposed to community programs through our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities. Their participation allowed them to learn more about team spirit and also unearth their leadership qualities,” he stressed.

According to Wan Mohamad, Politeknik Kota Kinabalu has established smart partnerships with 400 local firms for the students to undergo their practical training.

“I take this opportunity to record our gratitude and appreciation to industry allies from the Government agencies, private as well as corporate bodies which have provided training venues for our students.

“It is our hope that this good relationship will continue,” Wan Mohamed added.

Yesterday, a total of 936 graduates including outstanding students received their certificates and diplomas in several courses including tourism and hospitality, civil engineering, mechanical  and commerce.

As of December last year, Politeknik Kota Kinabalu has produced a total of 12,956 graduates.
