MIRI: A youth, 22, from Permyjaya, Tudan was yesterday sentenced to three weeks’ jail for attempting to steal a drain cover.
The order was imposed by Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles after taking into view several aspects including his plea and mitigation.
Larry Luang was charged under Section 511/379 of the Penal Code which carries a jail sentence of seven years, fine or both upon conviction.
The facts of the case revealed that the accused had tried to steal an iron drain cover belonging to Miri City Council (MCC).
He committed the offence with an accomplice who is still at large last month.
Inspector Norliza Abdullah prosecuted while the accused was unrepresented.
