Japanese MPs Receive ‘Dato Seri Laila Jasa’ Title

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Prominent Japanese Parliamentary Members, Mr Watanabe Kozo and Mr Nikai Toshihiro, who are also President and the Secretary General of the Brunei-Japan Parliamentarians’ League for Promotion of Friendship, visited the Sultanate from July 14-16, Borneo Bulletin reported.

According to a press release, the purpose of their visit was to receive state decorations from His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam at the Investiture Ceremony, which was held in conjunction with His Majesty’s 66th birthday celebrations.

The decorations that Mr Watanabe and Mr Nikai received were “Darjah Paduka Seri Laila Jasa Yang Amat Berjasa Darjah Kedua (DSLJ)”, the most distinguished order of Paduka Seri Laila Jasa. They received the decorations directly from His Majesty the Sultan, and became the first Japanese to carry the title of “Dato Seri Laila Jasa”.

Further, taking this opportunity, Mr Watanabe and Mr Nikai met the second Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Dewa Dato Seri Setia Awang Lim Jock Seng and Energy Minister at the Prime Minister’s, Office Pehin Datu Singamanteri Colonel (Rtd) Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Awg Hj Mohammad Yasmin bin Hj Umar, and renewed acquaintanceship with the ministers, as well as exchanged their views on further promotion of goodwill between the two countries.

In addition, the two MPs had an opportunity for pleasant talk with Japanese nationals living in the country. The decorations that Mr. Watanabe and Mr. Nikai conferred from His Majesty the Sultan, were tokens of long standing friendship and good will of Japan and Brunei, which would contribute to further strengthening and deepening the ties of the two countries.
