KUANTAN: Pahang, the host of the 15th Sukma which ended here yesterday, earned all round praise for a job well done.

National Sports Council (NSC) director general Datuk Seri Zolkples Embong said apart from being satisfied with the host for ensuring a well organised games, he was also happy with the performances of athletes, especially the back up athletes and their results.

“The quality and success of organising a game is judged from the performance of athletes, schedule of the events, equipments, venue and facilities,” he told reporters here yesterday.

Zolkples said even judging in combat sports which are deemed subjective, especially in wushu, karate and silat, was satisfactory and not biased.

“There were no complains of bias judging or poor judging in wushu, unlike in other Sukma games. That showed the judging process was done professionally and the credibility need to be maintained,” he said.

Zokples said the achievement of 1,707 back up squad athletes who had represented their respective states was commendable since they had won 105 gold, 107 silver and 122 bronze medals.

“Back up squad athletes had also set 13 new Sukma records compared with just five in Melaka two years ago,” he said. — Bernama
