PUTRAJAYA: A 28-year-old woman yesterday pleaded not guilty from her hospital bed to two charges, of criminal intimidation and possession of a sword, in the vicinity of Complex B of the Prime Minister’s Department here on July 9.

Muhdalena Ahmad of Kota Damansara, was charged with committing criminal intimidation by threatening to cause grievous hurt to a policeman, Ridzuan Megat Ahmad, there at about 2.30 pm on July 9, a charge under Section 506 of the Penal Code for which she is liable to seven years jail or a fine or both upon conviction.

She was also charged with having in her possession a sword at the same place and time, a charge under Section 7(1) of the Corrosive, Explosive and Dangerous Weapons Act 1958 for which she is liable to two years jail and a fine of up to RM2,000 or both upon conviction.

The Putrajaya Sessions Court had convened at about noon at the orthopaedic ward of Putrajaya Hospital where Muhdalena is under treatment.

Sessions Court Judge Mohd Kafli Che Ali, who was accompanied by a court interpreter and a registrar, set Aug 29 for mention and allowed Muhdalena bail of RM10,000 on both charges.

Deputy public prosecutor Siti Balkiah Yazaid had requested bail of RM10,000 on each count, but Muhdalena, in tears, appealed for a lower bail, saying that she and her husband were jobless and her mother and mother-in-law supported them.

On July 9, a 47-year-old man, Khalil Afandi Abd Hamid, who claimed to be Imam Mahadi (the Messiah to come at the time of the Last Judgement to save the world), was shot by the police when he ran amok with a Samurai sword at Complex B of the Prime Minister’s Department here.

He died in hospital.
