GEORGE TOWN: Penang police arrested a man and seized 52 packets of Ecstasy powder and pills worth RM243,500 in a raid on an apartment unit in Tanjung Bungah on Monday.

Timur Laut police chief ACP Gan Kong Meng said the drugs, weighing 3,247gm, were found hidden in a liquor box in one of the rooms in the apartment.

“We also found seven metal moulds for making small pills in the house,” he told reporters here yesterday.

Gan said initial investigation found that the suspect had two previous criminal records related to drugs and one related to robbery in 2001.

“Police believe the man is an expert in producing ecstasy pills and we are still investigating to find his source of supply,” he said.

The man has been remanded until next Monday and the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drug Act which carries mandatory death penalty upon conviction. — Bernama
