KOTA KINABALU: Queens Park Rangers (QPR) kicked off their Asian Tour by beating a Sabah Select XI 5-0 in a friendly match watched by some 20,000 fans at the Likas Stadium here Tuesday night.

QPR struck their first goal through Bobby Zamora who tapped in from close range after Shaun Wright-Philip’s attempt was blocked by the Sabah goalkeeper.

Despite numerous attempts from the visiting side, the score remained 1-0 at half-time.

Sabah Select launched a number of attacks led by Titus Jhon, Londow Bonai and Octavianus Maniani but failed to find the target.

Coming out from the break like a transformed outfit, QPR buried Sabah in a flurry of goals through a 63rd minute strike by substitute Heider Helguson, Jay Bothroyd (69th) and a brace from hit man Djibril Cisse (73rd and 81st minute). –Bernama
