Ops Sikap 26 to use stricter enforcement approach — Director

Posted on July 19, 2012, Thursday

PULAU AMAN, Batu Kawan: Police will use a stricter enforcement approach during Ops Sikap 26 starting Aug 10 to reduce the death toll during the Aidilfitri festive season.

Director of Internal Security and Public Order Department Datuk Salleh Mat Rasid said stricter enforcement during Ops Sikap 25 in Feb led to a drop in the death toll.

“It was the first time that the death toll had dropped. We will use the same approach with stricter enforcement by issuing summonses and high compound.

“Most importantly, all motorists must adhere to the law if we want to reduce road accidents,” he said after attending the ‘High Profile Policing’ programme with residents of Pulau Aman, here yesterday.

Ops Sikap 25 to mark Chinese New Year saw a drop in fatal accidents to 155 involving 168 deaths compared to 183 cases and 199 deaths during Ops Sikap 24.

Ops Sikap 26 is held in collaboration with the Road Transport Department (RTD), Land Public Transport Commission (Spad) and Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS).

Salleh said the police have always cooperated with all parties in an effort to reduce deaths from road accidents, especially during festive seasons.

“We believe that with more efforts and cooperation of all parties, the accident cases and death toll during festive seasons can be reduced,” he added. —Bernama
