Woman injured as tent collapses

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Kuala Belait – A woman was reportedly injured when the steel support pole of a tent collapsed due to strong winds at around 3pm yesterday. The incident happened at the upcoming Ramadan stall area in Jalan Setia Raja in the Belait District, Borneo Bulletin reported.

Most of the tents erected in the area were affected by the strong winds. Officers and personnel from the Kuala Belait and Seria Municipal Board, Royal Brunei Police Force, Fire and Rescue Department as well as Department Of Electrical Services rushed to the scene to inspect and repair the damage. Also present at the scene was the chairman of Kuala Belait and Seria Municipal Board Awang Haji Ishak bin Haji Abu Hanifah.

Two cars parked in the area were also damaged. The husband of the injured woman said that they were vendors doing preparations for the upcoming month of Ramadan. According to the husband, the wind suddenly picked speed and the tents started flapping, they tried to run but unfortunately one of the poles hit his wife in the head. She was rushed to Suri Seri Begawan Hospital.
