313 receive long service awards

MIRI: Miri district officer Boniface Intan Arpat was among the 313 civil servants who received their long service awards from Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud at a presentation ceremony in a leading hotel here yesterday.

Boniface, 58, has been in the civil service for 35 years.

Among others who received the award were Miri Port Authority general manager Shebli Harani, who had clocked in 41 years, Forest Department assistant director Sapuan Ahmad (32 years) and Ibrahim Abdullah (39 years) of Public Works Department.

The function was attended by State Legislative Assembly speaker Datuk Amar Awang Asfia Awang Nassar, state secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Morshidi Abdul Gani, Assistant Minister of Communications Datuk Lee Kim Shin, senator Lihan Jok and representatives of government departments and agencies.

Long service awards are presented to state civil servants who had served for at least 20 years.

Yesterday’s recipients were from 11 departments, statutory bodies or agencies; namely Miri Resident’s and District Office (10), Public Works Department (53), Forest Department (42), Welfare Department (9), Miri Port Authority (42), Immigration Department (25), Meteorological Department (11), Royal Customs and Excise Department (13), Inland Revenue Board (26) and Education Department (63).
