KUALA LUMPUR: A Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) market supervisor was charged at the Sessions Court here yesterday with accepting bribe of RM2,000 from a night market trader two years ago.

Azmi Che Mat, 57, from Puchong, Selangor, however, pleaded not guilty after the charge was read to him before Judge Ahmad Zamzani Mohd Zain.

Azmi was alleged to have accepted the bribe from Mohd Razip Ali as an inducement to get five stall lots at the night market in Desa Tasik, Sungai Besi.

He was alleged to have committed the offence at the DBKL office in Sungai Besi Wet Market at 4.05pm on March 22, 2010.

He was charged under Section 17(a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009 which carries a maximum jail term of 20 years and fines five times the value of the bribe or RM10,000 whichever is higher, upon conviction.

The court also allowed Azmi bail of RM3,500 in one surety and fixed Aug 14 for mention.
