BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: As An inclusive community that values not only the old but also the young with specific rights granted to them to ensure their welfare, health and progressive upbringing, national celebrations especially ones that are of immense significance to the people will always include the participation of the younger generation. Down the years, youthful faces have often been a permanent fixture for events such as His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s birthday celebrations with even infants brought along to witness the annual historical event that has made its mark in the hearts of those in Brunei and beyond, Borneo Bulletin reported.

This year, 2,000 school children from both government and private institutions, a 500-strong team of hadrah players and a total of 66 boys and 66 girls carrying ‘Bunga Manggar’ dotted the road that led to the Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddin. Come rain or shine, they remained committed in their designated areas as they wholeheartedly waved mini national flags as a sign of loyalty. As with many before them, these students understand that such a gathering could be a once-in a-lifetime opportunity to personally greet His Majesty, as their younger counterparts will take over when the next celebration comes around.

They were sounding their excitement when the royal entourage made its way to the Lapau and many were seen requesting to take photographs of the beloved monarch and as a ruler who is witnessed as always radiant when surrounded by the purity of children. His Majesty has always consented to spend an extra amount of time to fulfill the wishes of his young subjects and, of course, those who are older.

Time and time again, teachers and educators who have been asked the purpose of their students participating would explain that by providing students with the chance to be up-close and personal with His Majesty has the potential to culminate a sense of respect for the principle of the nation. That is the Malay Islamic Monarchy philosophy, which is also utilized to inculcate the country’s development that will one day be led by promising young individuals.
