SIBU: Women veteran runners from Sibu Marathon Sports Club (SMSC) had done their club proud by bagging a string of accolades in their recent outings.

Ling Mee Eng, a 44-year-old mother-of-two was the surprised winner of the recent Standard Chartered KL Marathon held in Kuala Lumpur and pocketed US$2,500.

Over 20,000 runners from throughout the world took part in the annual event and Ling surprised even herself after winning the Malaysian category despite facing stiff challenges from the other hopefuls.

“It is a sweet victory that I am going to savour for a long time…the atmosphere there was electrifying but the run was hard for me to describe,” said Ling who also finished third in The Run 2012 held in Brunei earlier this month where she collected RM1,500 along the way.

Being one of the veteran members who joined SMSC over 20 years ago, Ling said she will continue to run and still try to improve her training technique and stamina.

Choo Ngiik Hung on the other hand, has also achieved a list of satisfactory results since joining SMSC over 20 years ago.
