Brunei Olympic Team receives sponsorship for London 2012

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: The national athletes, Ak Hafiy Tajuddin Pg Rositi and Dyg Maziah Mahusin competing in Athletic Sports in the London Olympic 2012 received a tremendous boost in this historic campaign for the country, after signing ceremony and receiving sponsorship of air tickets and attire yesterday, Borneo Bulletin reported.

His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah, the President of Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council, was present to witness the signing ceremony for a sponsorship agreement between the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council with Royal Brunei Airlines, TelBru and Mitsui Consortium. Also present at the ceremony were YAM Pengiran Muda Abdul Aleem, Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Laila Diraja Dato Seri Setia Awg Hj Hazair bin Hj Abdullah, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports with the Deputy Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Datin Paduka Hjh Adina binti Othman, as well as other officials.

Signing on behalf of Royal Brunei Airlines was Dermont Mannion, the Deputy Chairman, which will mark the appointment of Royal Brunei Airlines as the official airline for the Brunei Olympic team. Royal Brunei Airlines will sponsor the return air fares to London for Ak Hafiy Tajuddin Pg Rositi and Dayang Maziah Mahusin as well as the rest of Brunei’s contingent.

Dermont Mannion said, “We are proud and deeply honoured to be bringing our national athletes to London for the 2012 Olympics. We wish them the best of luck on fulfilling their dream in representing Brunei at this great event.” Meanwhile, Awg Hj Sairul Rhymin bin Hj CA Mohamed, Acting CEO of TelBru, signed on the dotted line for TeiBru. TelBru will be sponsoring the sports attire for the Olympic athletes. Awg Hj Sairul Rhymin commented, “TelBru has always been supportive of sports events in the country. TeiBru, as one of the major business organizations, felt privileged to be involved in this historic event by supporting the Brunei Olympic team.” The last signing saw Satochi Ando, the representative Director of Mitsui and Co Gas Chemical Sdn bhd, signed on the agreement on behalf of Mitsui Consortium. Mitsui Consortium will be sponsoring competition attire including running shoes.

After the signing Satochi Ando said in an interview, “Today we presented four sets of attires including shoes to the athletes. All the attires and shoes with the brand Asics are made from Japan. As a new company here in Brunei, we want to let the local community know that we have a long-term commitment in Brunei Darussalam. In Japan, we also contribute to the sports community. The contribution to the Brunei’s Olympic team is the first and we hope to continue to do more for the country.”

Signing on behalf of the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council was its Secretary-General, Hj Zuraimi Hj Abdul Sani. Brunei’s third athlete to the Olympics, Awg Anderson Lim Chee Wei, who is competing in the 200m freestyle Swimming Event, will be flying from the US with his coach to London.
