SEBUYAU: One of the missing passengers of the ill-fated Eurocopter EC 120 helicopter which crashed near here on Friday was found dead in the South China Sea today.
A local fishing vessel found the body of 27-year-old Siti Khuzaimah Anwar in the open sea not far from the Sungai Lingga river mouth. She was without a life jacket when the body was found.
Hailing from Kampung Muhibbah in Kuching, Siti Khuzaimah was one of the three passengers who went missing after the helicopter crashed while on its way from Kuching to Nanga Merit, Kapit Division. She was a surveyor.
Her body was sighted by fishermen from Maludam, who then informed the search and rescue mission. Her body was brought to Sebuyau Public Clinic at about 11am.
Search and rescue operations are still ongoing for the remaining missing passengers, Sebiro Holdings engineer Peter Ato Mayau, 53, and architect Henry Loh, 42.
At least four boats from the police, marine police and the Fire and Rescue Department are involved in the operations. Several locals have also joined the search effort.
The German pilot, Rico Steger, 35, was the only survivor as he swam his way out of the wreckage for several hours in strong currents before reaching Kampung Tebelu, Sebuyai. – Bernama
