Former Kuala Langat police chief claims trial to dangerous driving

Posted on July 24, 2012, Tuesday

SHAH ALAM: Former Kuala Langat OCPD Supt Mohamad Radzi Ishak pleaded not guilty in the magistrates’ court to dangerous driving and causing the deaths of two teenagers on a motorcycle four years ago.

Mohamad Radzi, 54, now a senior police officer at Bukit Aman, claimed trial after the charge was read out to him before magistrate Zilfinaz Abbas.

He was charged with driving a car, bearing registration number BKA 8411, in a dangerous manner and causing the deaths of motorcyclist Muhammad Luqman Hakim Mohamad and pillion-rider Muhamad Khairol Khaizuran Mohammed Sani, both 15, along Jalan Kebun here at 11.45pm on Sept 14, 2008.

The charge, under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, provides for a jail term of between two and 10 years and a fine of between RM5,000 and RM20,000, besides suspension of the driving licence.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Aida Mastura Mohamed Aman suggested bail of RM3,000 in one surety and suspension of Mohamad Radzi’s driving licence.

Counsel Mohamad Daud Ismail said the defence would not oppose the bail sum, but applied for exemption of the driving licence suspension.

He said his client lived far away in Bukit Beruntung and had to drive to work, besides having to transport a paralysed relative, who lives with him, to hospital for treatment thrice a week.

Aida Mastura pointed out that the case was a serious one as it involved two deaths.

Magistrate Zilfinaz allowed the defence application for exemption of the driving licence suspension and set bail at RM3,000 in one surety. She also set Sept 7 for mention of the case. — Bernama
