RM1,500 fine for hitting friend with buckle

KUCHING: A man who pleaded guilty to causing grievous hurt to his friend using a buckle was fined RM1,500, in default two months’ imprisonment yesterday.

Magistrate Gerald Empaling Donald convicted Frankie Ujai, 29, from Kampung Stapok, Batu Kawa of the charge
under Section 324 of the Penal Code.

Frankie committed the offence while drunk at a coffee-shop at Jalan Pelabuhan at about 1am on Feb 13.

When told by his friend that he did not have a lighter on him, Frankie got angry and struck his face with a belt buckle until he fell unconscious.

In mitigating for a lighter sentence, Frankie, who was not represented by any lawyer, told the court he was a first time offender and would not repeat the offence.

He settled the fine.
