TAWAU: Road tax sticker stocks will be available at the Road Transport Department (RTD) by today or tomorrow.
Motorists were fuming yesterday after finding out that the department has run out of stickers.
Democratic Action Party (DAP) Tawau branch complaint bureau chief Tan Lee Fatt who received many complaints from the public yesterday morning, said he was told by the RTD here that it ran out of the individual road tax stickers.
But the new stocks will be arriving by Wednesday at the latest.
Tan hoped the department would be prudent in future and not let this happen again as it has inconvenienced motorists wanting to renew their road tax.
Tan said many motorists were angry and disappointed yesterday morning at the RTD office here to learn that they could not renew their road tax.
“This should not happen and I hope RTD will check their stocks often,” he said.
Meanwhile, Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Tawau branch secretary Gan Chee Chan said he personally went to RTD office to check on the complaints.
He saw a notice at the office saying, “Sticker cukai jalan habis sila bayar di Pejabat Pos” (No more road tax sticker, please pay at Post Office) .
“There is no reason why the RTD should run out road tax stickers. This has caused difficulty to car owners to renew their road tax,” he said.
“If car owners go to the Post Office they need to pay an extra charge of RM2. We hope this matter will not happen again and the RTD head here need to be more responsible,” he said.
