SIBU: Sibu man Wong Teck Sern who was killed in Sungei Buloh Country Club in Kuala Selangor on Monday was identified by the police as a former detainee of Simpang Rengam.

The 42-year-old man was sent to the detention centre in 2008 and was released in 2010.

He was then sent to Restricted Residence in Lawas on Aug 25. In February this year, he was released.

Apparently, Wong had not stayed in Sibu for long thereafter.

He was found dead on Monday in the club’s compound with three gunshot wounds to his head.

The police have classified his death as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the mandatory death sentence.

Wong’s movements and activities after his release from Lawas had not been clear but it is understood that his parents, after being informed of the murder on Monday, have rushed to Kuala Lumpur.

Before his detention in Simpang Renggam in 2008, Wong was arrested by the police here to help in the investigation of a murder in Balingian, in which a man operating a pirate taxi was killed and his corpse burnt.

As police could not connect the murder with Wong he was released.

Shortly after that, he was re-arrested before being sent to Simpang Renggam.

Pressmen here yesterday contacted a family member of Wong, but she was reluctant to talk to the press.

The Sungei Buloh murder rocked Sibu town on Monday and became a hot topic in coffee shops.
