KUCHING: Deputy Speaker of the state legislative assembly Datuk Roland Sagah says Meluan assemblyman Wong Judat will be seated with members of the opposition should he resigns from the Barisan Nasional.

This is despite Wong’s declaration that he is still BN-friendly even after leaving his party (Sarawak Progressive Democratic party) to join the newly registered Sarawak Workers Party (SWP).

Sagah, the Tarat assemblyman, said this in response to query on Wong’s status in the assembly later on after his impending exit from SPDP in which he is a vice-president.

Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), however, was not excited about Wong’s latest political move. The party apparently did not cherish the fact that they would have one more assemblyman in their midst.

Its state vice-president See Chee How, who is Batu Lintang assemblyman described Wong’s possible exit from SPDP as “a very embarrassing one indeed’ to the BN as a whole.

“This is a problem for the BN. If he leaves SPDP and remain faithful to BN, he will remain a BN backbencher. If he joins SWP, a non-BN party, he will have to join the opposition bench in the DUN,” he said.

The assemblyman also said that if Wong left SPDP but pledged support to the BN and yet wanted to fight against Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) vice-president and Julau MP Datuk Joseph Salang in the next election, this would become a thorny problem for the BN.

Wong did not hide his feeling when declaring his quit move and desire to contest against Salang, who is Deputy Minister of Information, Communication and Culture.
