Man fined RM2,000 for causing hurt, mischief

KUCHING: A man charged with causing hurt to another man and committing mischief was slapped with a fine totalling RM2,000 by a magistrates’ court here yesterday.

Magistrate Maris Agan imposed the fine against Stephen Juntai, 32, after he pleaded guilty to the two offences listed under Section 324 and 427 of the Penal Code.

He committed the offences at his house in Kampung Stampin about 10.30pm on June 18.

He assaulted a man known as Kee, 37, who is his sister’s boyfriend with a helmet and also smashed the front and rear windows of a company vehicle (Isuzu DMax) driven by Kee.

Estimated loss was about RM3,500.

The accused was drunk when he arrived home that evening and saw a man sitting with his sister watching television in the living room.

He hit the man on his head with a helmet he was holding and with it smashed the windows of the vehicle parked outside.

Scared, the lovers ran to the main road and were spotted by a police patrol car.

A police report was made on the spot and the accused arrested the same evening.

He paid the fine.

In the same courtroom, a cargo company was slapped with a RM1,500 fine in default a month’s jail for allowing its driver to carry a load more than the permissible limit.

Magistrate Maris Agan fined Tanjung Matu Cargo Service Sdn Bhd after its representative pleaded guilty to the charge.

The company was charged with allowing Wong Kee Ho, 48, to drive an overloaded lorry at Km18.5 Kuching-Serian Road at 11.44am on April 27 last year.

The lorry was carrying 33,200kg load which was more than the allowable weight of 21,000kg.

Wong, who admitted to driving the overloaded vehicle was also slapped with a RM1,000 fine in default three months’ jail.

He was charged under Section 19(1)(b)(vi) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Both fines were settled.
