KUCHING: The police and the public prosecution’s office have been urged to reveal the progress of investigation into the helicopter crash near Sebuyau last Friday in order to quell public speculations.

State PKR vice-chairman and practising lawyer See Chee How said it was important that the public be given updates on the tragedy.

“This is to put a stop to all sorts of rumours and speculations going around. The police should get a statement from the pilot as soon as possible because apparently there were contradictions based on an initial interview with the press. There were many confusing details from the interview that differ from what were discovered later on,”

“This includes an inconsistent claim by the pilot that all passengers wore life jackets, but when their bodies were found, they had no life jackets on. Did the police and the public prosecution’s office interview him (pilot), for he is the sole survivor and witness to the tragedy?”

The tragedy which strike on Friday morning saw three lives perished when the Sebiro Holdings-owned helicopter crashed into Sungai Triso.

The victims were 27-year-old quantity surveyor Siti Khuzaimah Annuar, 53-year-old civil engineer and state PKR vice-chairman Peter Ato Mayau and architect Henry Loh.

The 35-year-old pilot, Rico Steger from Germany, managed to save himself by swimming four hours to reach
Kampung Tebelu in Sebuyau.

See also urged the state Disaster and Relief Committee chairman Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu Numpang to explain his absence during the process of recovering the helicopter crash victims.

“There is a need for him (Jabu) to clear the air as many people are confused as to whether the state Disaster and Relief Committee had contributed in the search and rescue operations before people start accusing him or the state government for not helping.

“It is irresponsible of him, in his capacity as the state Disaster and Relief Committee chairman, to be not there at all.”
