SIBU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on Wednesday charged four individuals at the Kapit Sessions Court for making false statements intended to mislead an officer of the commission or MACC public prosecutor.

MACC Sibu director Azizan Abdul Yaziz, the investigating officer, disclosed that three of the individuals are government employees, while the fourth is a food contractor.

“They’re the key witnesses of the main case against a school principal here, during the period 2006 to 2007, for not fully supplying the rations for school boarders. The charge for the accused is providing only four servings instead of all five servings as required,” he explained.

“The three government employees were a school teacher and two hostel supervisors and the fourth the food contractor who were the key witnesses of this case. They gave different evidence to the court and
MACC — the contradictory statements are offences under Section 27 (2) of the MACC Act 2009.”

The four accused pleaded not guilty and were released on RM5,000 bail each in two sureties.

They face a maximum fine of RM100,000 or a maximum jail term of 10 years or both.

The prosecuting officer from MACC was Supt Othman Anyan, while Sessions Court Magistrate Marudin Pagang presided over the case.

The hearing will be on Sept 4.
