Soldier and student among four charged with man’s murder

SEREMBAN: Four men, including a soldier and a student, were charged in the High Court here yesterday with the murder of a man in Rembau last year.

However, all of them pleaded not guilty and claimed trial to the charge.

They are contractors Rosman Ali Abdul, 28, and Kamarudin Idrus, 54; soldier Mohamad Asrol Izek Md Aris, 31, from the Sungai Besi camp in Kuala Lumpur, and 19-year-old Zaki Zahari, 19, a student.

The four men are charged with murdering Hamzah Ab Majid in the Ulu Kanchong oil palm plantation at Pedas, Rembau, between 9.30pm and midnight on Oct 18, 2011.

The charge carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.

High Court judge senior assistant registrar Siti Khairiah Abd Razak set Aug 30 for mention.

Deputy public prosecutor Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin prosecuted, while lawyer Mohd Jufri Abd Mois represented Zaki.
