Chong challenged to make stand on Hudud law

KUCHING: SUPP Youth chief Tan Kai yesterday once again challenged Bandar Kuching MP Chong Chieng Jen to make his stand on Hudud law, following claims by PAS that it will definitely implement it.
He said recent news reports showed that PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat was adamant on implementing the hudud law, particularly in Kelantan, although there were objections to this including from fellow Pakatan Rakyat partner DAP.
“Everyone is already well aware of PAS’ final stand, leaving DAP alone, unwilling to face the bitter truth that such an act is no different from sacrificing the rights of non-Muslims in the country.
“This also shows that DAP is nothing but a PAS follower, and their alliance is threatening the freedom all Malaysians enjoy since independence over half a century ago.
“Imagine men and women have to sit separately in cinemas; isn’t this against human rights?” he asked in a statement yesterday.
Tan Kai, who is a likely BN candidate to wrest back Bandar Kuching from DAP, said what was more disappointing was that DAP had disagreed on many of PAS’ policies before, and had even threatened to quit the then Barisan Alternatif.
“PAS and DAP have nothing in common yet they formed PR (Pakatan Rakyat). This only shows that the duo’s coalition is based entirely on self-interest. YB Chong who is also DAP’s national leader must declare his stand!” he said.
