SARIKEI: Residents in Sare and Merudu/Meruton areas near here will soon enjoy ample supply of treated water.
The construction of an elevated tank (Sare Galglass Tank) costing RM3.3 million will be completed by next week as scheduled.
Member of Parliament for Sarikei, Ding Kuong Hiing, during a visit to the project site yesterday, said the storage capacity of the new tank is 1,000 cubic metres.
As the daily water consumption by some 4,200 residents in the two areas is estimated at 840 cubic metres, the new tank has some 180 cubic metres in surplus of treated water per day, Ding said.
Ding proposed that the surplus be utilised by Jakar and other areas.
Among those who accompanied Ding during the visit were engineer in charge of Public Works Department Water Section, Ahmad Selihin Che Said, Assistant District Officer Lim Hock Meng and councillor Teng Ung Woo.
