Two police officers plead not guilty to corruption charges

SIBU: A police chief inspector and a lance corporal were yesterday brought to the court here to face three charges of corruption.

Chief Inspector Mohd Faizal Nawi and L/Corporal Zainal Mohamad Yunus pleaded not guilty. In the first charge, they were alleged to have corruptly solicited for themselves a gratification of cash RM30,000 from Walter Wong Hai Ing as an inducement for not taking action against Wong for an alleged offence at the office of Mohd Faizal at about 10.30am on Jan 15, 2009.

The second charge stated that they did corruptly accept for themselves a gratification of cash RM15,500 from Wong as a reward for not taking action against him for an alleged offence nearby the Pondok Polis at the Central Market about 3pm on Jan 30, 2009.

The third charge alleged them of corruptly accepting a gratification of cash RM10,000 from Wong as a reward for not taking action against him for an offence Wong allegedly committed.

MACC prosecuting officer Katherine Nais prosecuted while Shankar Ram represented the accused.
