‘Crawlers’ steal the show at Borneo Crawlerlympics with dexterity

Posted on July 30, 2012, Monday

KUCHING: The stars of the Borneo RC Crawlerlympics are remote controlled 4×4 toy vehicles called ‘crawlers’ that roll, bounce and hop with surprisingly organic dexterity.

The obstacle course built to put these crawlers and their controllers to the test – tree branches, stones, concrete bricks, a see-saw, a bridge and an intimidating steep downhill incline – had several of these vehicles flipping head-over-wheels.

A handful of the contestants were surprisingly young but the camaraderie and support was clear when friends and fellow contestants cheered each other on through difficult sections of the obstacle course.

A total of 44 participants competed in five categories – multi axel (6×6) open, 4×4 1.9 open and 4×4 2.2 open, best bodyshell and best toy car.

This is the first time that a competition for multi axle (6×6) or six-wheeled RC trucks has been held in Malaysia.

The Crawlerlympic was held at Tun Jugah Shopping Mall here and sponsored by Tun Jugah, Shern Shiang Trading and De Palma Hotel.

It was organised to bring the RC Crawlers and fans together as part of Tun Jugah’s ongoing efforts of bringing more excitement to the mall.

For the multi axel open, first place went to Danny Lee, second place to Tay Han Siang and third went to Chang Li
Zhi.

In the 4×4 – 1.9 Open category Jensen Kho’s vehicle crawled its way into first place. Wee Wuie Tiong came in second while Martin Tian was in third place.

The top prize for the 4×4 – 2.2 Open also went to Jensen Kho. William Lee rolled in to second place while Danny Lee pulled in third.

The best bodyshell prize went to Adrian Timmy with his Monster Truck and Victor Ho’s Batman car took the prize for best toy car.
