ALOR SETAR: The Alor Star City Council (MBAS) and the Kedah Islamic Religious Council (Maik) have raided 10 food premises here for operating before 3pm during Ramadan following intelligence and public complaints.

MBAS enforcement chief Saifullizam Othman said the operators were slapped with a RM300 summon and the cost of removing of equipment and cooking utensils between RM50 and RM500.

Speaking to reporters here, he said the Kota Setar Health Office also took part in the operations which were conducted on Sunday and yesterday.

Meanwhile, 10 male customers ran helter-skelter when a food stall in Jalan Gangasa here was raided by MBAS, Maik and the Kota Setar Health Office at about 11am.

A cook was seen preparing dishes while a worker was wrapping food for customers during the raid.

The food stall, which was located near garbage bins, was found to be unhygienic as there were flies everywhere.

Saifullizam said MBAS also detected four cases of traders selling food from car booths.

He urged the public to notify MBAS about food businesses operating before 3 pm by calling its 24-hour hotline at 04-7304319 or enforcement unit at 04-7332499. — Bernama
