KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Sarawak Health Department will continue to work hand in hand with the local authorities to ensure the cleanliness of food stalls operating during the Ramadan month.

Taking cleanliness and hygiene lightly according to Assistant Environmental Health Officer Lim Joo Kok, could cause the spread of viruses and food poisoning.

Speaking during a random spot-check of food stalls at Desa Ilmu Ramadan bazaar, Lim also said that they would give out fliers to encourage cleanliness to food operators.

He said cleanliness is instrumental in attracting more patrons to the bazaar.

“That is why we continuously advise the local authorities to prioritise cleanliness at all the Ramadan bazaars in the state so that people will not doubt the cleanliness and hygienic aspects of these places,” added Lim.

Spot checks will be a routine affair for the health department to ensure that all food operators abide to the required hygiene standards, he said.
