Papar woman fined for prostitution

KOTA KINABALU: A Papar woman was fined RM3,000, in default, four months in jail by the Magistrate’s Court yesterday for offering sexual service to a man.

Julianah Duran, 35, admitted before magistrate Herlina Muse to soliciting for the purpose of prostitution inside a room of a lodging house in Kampung Air on July 25.

She was charged under Section 372B of the Penal Code which provides for a maximum jail of one year, or a fine, or both, upon conviction.

According to the facts of the case, the accused admitted to giving sexual service to the man for RM50.

In a separate case, a senior citizen was fined RM3,000, in default, four months in prison, for possessing illegal four digit (4D) lottery implements last month.

Yip Yok Yin, 61, pleaded guilty to a charge framed under Section 9 (1) of the Common Gaming House 1953 which carries a maximum fine of RM5,000, or a jail term of up to six months, or both, upon conviction.

She was apprehended in a raid conducted by police on a premises in Jalan Nountun, Inanam Township, on June 13 where cash, six pieces of small paper, a pen and several books were also seized.

Prosecuting officer Inspector Azaman Hamat appeared for the prosecution.
