Compounds worth RM4 million issued for dengue-related offences

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 10,178 summons worth RM4,507,715 were issued against offenders in efforts to prevent and control dengue in the first six months of the year.
Health director-general Datuk Seri Dr Hasan Abdul Rahman said during the same period 689 cases were referred to the court and from the total, 420 cases were charged in court and action taken, including fines amounting to RM135,480.
In a statement today, he said the enforcement action taken was under the Destruction Of Disease-Bearing Insects Act 1975. He said 1,475 people were issued compounds worth RM704,150 last month, while 190 cases were referred for court action and from the total, 45 cases were charged with fines amounting to RM15,150 under the same act.
Throughout the period, he said compounds valued at RM1,940,498 were also issued for 8,982 offences under the Control of Tobacco Product Regulations 2004. — Bernama
