PUTRAJAYA: Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) president Datuk Omar Osman expressed hope that the RM500 special payment to government retirees would be extended to those who opted to contribute to the Employees Provident Fund (EPF).

He said the payment was only meant for the retirees who chose the pension scheme and about 300,000 who opted for EPF had never received any bonus from the time they retired.

“Many have called me to appeal to the government on the matter.

“So, we appeal to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s generosity in extending the special payment to this group,” he told reporters after a Special Study on the Civil Service Transformation Commission meeting with road transport enforcement agencies, chaired by Tun Zaki Azmi at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre, here yesterday.

Omar further requested the government to also consider extending the payment to army personnel in service 18 years and below who did not receive pensions, so that they would not feel sidelined.

Najib announced the special payment of RM500 to government retirees when he declared the half month bonus to civil servants, last
Wednesday.

The bonus and payment would benefit 1.27 million civil servants and 657,000 government retirees. — Bernama
