KUALA TERENGGANU: Police detained a hardware shop assistant for possession of firecrackers and fireworks at a house in Pondok Lalang, Batu Rakit, here, yesterday.
Terengganu CID chief ACP K Manoharan said the man, 34, was arrested during a 3.30am raid and police also seized 20 types of firecrackers and fireworks worth about RM17,000.
“We are still investigating where he got the supply,” he told reporters here adding that the raid was the biggest firecrackers haul this year.
He said a meeting would be held with the Kuala Terengganu City Council to revoke licences of traders involved in the sale of firecrackers and fireworks.
Manoharan said police would monitor several public hotspots during the fasting month, such as Ramadan bazaars, sundry shops and night markets to curb the sale of firecrackers as it was banned in 1991 under the Explosives Act due to detrimental injuries involving children. — Bernama
