Longhouse to be rebuilt with modern facilities

KAPIT: A 32-door longhouse (Rumah Elie) at Km3 Jalan Bukit Goram here will be rebuilt with modern features but with the traditional Iban features still intact.
The longhouse was burnt on June 1 2011 while the residents were celebrating Gawai Dayak. The fire reduced 10 doors (bilik) of the longhouse to ashes.
Kapit MP Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi said that each family would receive RM1,000 each from the government under e-Kasih Perumahan for the purchase of building material.
He said this during a meeting with the JKKK led by the chairman David Dumbang and TR Elie at Meligai Hotel here recently.
Nanta advised the JKKK to form a ‘building committee’ to properly plan the new longhouse, complete with fire breaks and children’s study rooms.
