College students fined for insulting policeman

KUALA LUMPUR: Three private college students were fined RM100 each, in default a month’s jail, for insulting a policeman.

Magistrate Zaki Asyraf Zubir handed down the sentence on Ruzaidi Ramli, 18, Shahrul Amir Farhan, 19, and a seventeen-year-old, after they pleaded guilty to the charge.

The students were charged with insulting Sub-Inspector K.Chandran, from the Cheras police station, at the hostel of Cybernatics College, Jalan Perkasa 1, Taman Maluri, Cheras here at 8.30am yesterday. According to the facts of the case, the policemen went to the hostel to check on a complaint that 22 students had made insulting remarks at policemen on duty there.

It was during a briefing there that the three students’ behaviour was offensive. Deputy public prosecutor Wong Chai Sia prosecuted, while the three students were unrepresented. — Bernama
