LONDONG: Bryan Nickson Lomas and Huang Qiang failed to repeat the bronze medal feat they did in the World Championships at the same venue when they finished last in the Men’s Synchronised 3m Spring Board event of the London Olympic.

In the event held at the London Aquatics Centre, the Malaysian divers collected 405.09 points to finish at the bottom out of the eight participating countries.

A frustrated Bryan said Wednesday’s event should have been fruitful for them as they had won a bronze at the World Championship last February.

“Its the same venue and the majority of divers then were also here. This was our best hope to break the medal jinx for the Malaysian contingent,” he said.

Malaysia’s national coach from China, Yang Zhuliang said the duo started making mistakes in dive number five.

“I could see that Bryan was too excited which cause their combination not synchronised,” he said.

Starting the six difficulties event ranked fifth before rising to third in the second dive, Bryan and Huang made mistakes in the third dive which cause their ranking to drop to sixth.

In the fourth dive, they managed to maintain their ranking at sixth before dropping to eighth in the last two dives.

Chinese divers Qin Lai and Luo Yutong grabbed the gold with 477.00 points, Russians Ilya Zakharoz and Evgeny Kuznetsov won the silver (459.63) while Kristian Ipsen/ Troy Dumais of USA took the bronze (446.76). — Bernama
