Awet Thai Seafood opens first branch in Kuching

AUTHENTIC TOMYAM: One of its well known dish is the ever popular spicy tom yam.

KUCHING: Popular seafood restaurant from West Malaysia serving authentic Thai cuisine called Awet Thai Seafood is opening its first branch in Kuching, marking its fifth branch nationwide.

Having established its outlets in Selangor’s prime areas namely Damansara, Cheras, Puchong and Kajang since 2007, the restaurant owner is branching out to Kuching with the official opening held at the restaurant located at No.23, Lot 1621 Off Penrissen Road which is just nearby Boulevard Shopping Mall.

The chairman of the restaurant, Woo Weng Bun who hails from Kuala Lumpur reasoned that he opened his fifth branch in Kuching to bring ‘good and genuine’ Thailand food to the people here.

“All the eight chefs in our Kuching branch are from Thailand and they know how to cook and serve the real Thai style gourmet food,” he said.

“We have more than 80 different dishes on our menu and they are mainly Thai specialty dishes for  those who want to try out Thai’s gastronomic and spicy original recipe. We also have a non-spicy dishes for the children such as fried rice, beancurd, noodles, omellette and others,” he explained.

HIGHLY VISIBLE : The restaurant boosts of a well lighted entrance that could be seen from afar, thus making it easy to find.

He added that most of Awet Thai Seafood’s items were ordered locally but all the other ingredients for cooking the food such as its sauces, flavour enhancers, condiments and spices originate from Thailand.

Woo elaborated that for the fish menu, the restaurant could cook it in eight types of styles with a minimum price range from RM40 to RM45 per kilograme for its variety of fish.

“I recommend our popular Ken Som Steamed Fish in Thai Special Sauce for the public to try out as it is the one and only menu served in Kuching,” he said.

Besides that, the restaurant also serve more than seven different style of dishes for its prawn, crabs, chicken and vegetable menus. All of the foods served are pork free.

When asked how many number of guests that patronises the restaurant every day, Woo mentioned that the restaurant could easily reach a minimum of 500 to 600 customers daily in their branches in Selangor on an ordinary day and if there was a special occasion like wedding dinner, it could serve even more customers.

CASUAL AMBIENCE : The open air seating section is very relaxing, cool and spacious.

Asked if he planned to open more branches, he replied that its Miri branch is in the pipeline next year.

As for this Kuching branch, it has a capacity of 29 tables with a air condition section and open air seating ambience.

Awet Thai Seafood Kuching is open for business daily from 12pm until 2.30pm and from 5.30pm until 11.30pm, including public holidays.
