PUTATAN: The Sabah people were told not to be influenced by claims that newly formed political parties are better than the Barisan Nasional (BN) government.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Yahya Hussin said the reason being that the claims were not supported by evidence as the ability of the parties concerned in administering the state had yet to be tested.

“How can they claim to be better that the current BN government when they have yet to form a government, “That is why I’m reminding the people to not be easily swayed with the ploy by the new parties or political movements which support the opposition in their bid to get the people’s support,” he said in his speech at the presentation of aid and breaking of fast with the poor and needy at the Kampung Lok Kawi Baru mosque near here on Saturday.

Yahya, who is Petagas Assemblyman, said the BN government had proven its capability in administering the state, as well as the country, and brought prosperity for the people.

The BN government, he said, always strived to improve the people’s livelihood by introducing various aid and facilities.

“The transformation programmes that are introduced have helped alot in reducing the people’s burden, besides upgrading their living standard and socio-economy,” he added.

He said political stability, peace and prosperity enjoyed by the people under the BN government had enabled tithe to be collected and distributed to help the poor and needy.

With continued support from the people, Yahya said he believed that more could be done by the BN government.

At the function, Yahya presented prayer mats to the mosque and tithe to 37 people. — Bernama
