KUCHING: The Sarawak Special Olympics with the cooperation of Limar Group of Companies on Saturday held a breaking of fast ceremony with children and members of the Autistic Association, Dyslexia Association and Welfare of Intellectually Disabled Children (Perkata).

Held at Tun Jugah Shopping Mall Food Court, the event was graced by Welfare, Women and Family Development Minister Datuk Fatimah Abdullah.

Fatimah in her speech highlighted the importance of investing in special children’s welfare and development through their associations, and she described the efforts as a smart move.

“It is in line with the 1Malaysia concept where everyone deserves equal treatment. We want these special children to enjoy quality life through activities, healthcare and education,” she said.

She, however, lamented the poor situations where some associations were short of grant to operate and called for more participation from the private sector to assist in the cause.

Earlier on, Limar Group of Companies senior group manager Khairul Azizan Alias in his speech announced a contribution of RM5,000 to each of the associations invited for the event.

Among the objectives of the event were to provide awareness to the public towards the role played by the Sarawak Special Olympics and its athletes, to bridge the gap between the disabled and those with special needs and the community.

Children from the association were earlier treated to various activities in the evening such as colouring contest and jigsaw puzzle with prizes sponsored by Tun Jugah Shopping Mall, Popular Book Store and Wondertoys.

Also present was Limar Group of Companies chief executive officer Graeme Lain Brown.
