Foreigner jailed for possessing drugs

TAWAU: A 50-year-old foreign man was sentenced to 12 months’ jail by a Magistrate’s Court here yesterday for drug possession.

Magistrate Edward Paul meted out the sentence on labourer Amin bin Osman who was charged under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drug Act for possession of 0.06 gram of methamphetamine.

Edward also sentenced the accused to another four months’ jail for drug abuse under Section 15 of the same Act. He ordered the sentence to run concurrently and the accused to be referred to the Immigration Department for deportation after serving the sentence.

Prosecuting officer Inspector Joan Lee told the court that the accused was caught in possession of the drugs on July 5 this year about 2.30am at Kampung Ice-Box Baru, Mile 5, Apas Road.

Police and Task Force conducting ‘Ops Tanduk 14’ raided an unnumbered house and detained the accused who was holding a L.A Light cigarette packet. Inside the packet were two plastic packets containing the drug. At the police station he tested positive for methamphetamine abuse.
