KAPIT: Pre-tournament favourites, team Beeteck, lived up to their top billing when they defeated team Kim Soon in the highly charge finals of the Tai San Ten Chinese Inter-Team Badminton Championships at Bletih Stadium.
Crowd favourites team Tat Huat had to settle for third place while Team CSL Iron and Steel Works in fourth.
The annual championship was organised by the Tai San Ten Association and participated by sixty players divided into six teams.
Kapit Member of Parliament Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi lauded the various clubs and associations for actively organising sporting events and called on them to put extra focus on youth in sports development.
“Clubs or associations are strongly encouraged to organise sports activities that focus on the youths. To groom athletes, they must start at the young age to tap their full potential and inculcate interest in sports. There must be consistent training to build up skill and talent. Our national badminton icon, Datuk Lee Chong Wei started at a young age. It was many years of training before he emerged as Malaysian badminton hero,” Alexander said at the closing ceremony on Monday evening.
He was confident of the fact that the inter-team badminton competition was able to promote social interaction and friendships.
Chairman of Tai San Ten Association, Ma Tian Ho in his speech requested government departments such as the Youth and Sports Department and the Ministry of Social Development to organise more sports competitions and activities for the youths here.
“People in Kapit are very keen in sports. Whenever there is a game being organised, we always see overwhelming response”, he added.
Also present at the closing ceremony were Pemanca Tan Kian Hoo, Kapitan Yong Thu Fook, chairman of Kwang Tung Association, Lee See Fung and adviser Shia Shui Poh.
