BACHOK: Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat’s willingness to cooperate with the special committee to study in a fair and transparent manner the issue of cash payment from petroleum revenue to the states in the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia is a good sign towards resolving the matter.

Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Dr Awang Adek Hussin said the matter should not be politicised for the sake of the Kelantan people.

Nik Abdul Aziz’s willingness to cooperate is good enough, although some Pas leaders in the state are against it, he told reporters after launching the State Fire and Rescue Department ‘Ops Raya’ here yesterday.

After the announcement on the setting up of the special committee by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, Nik Abdul Razak was reported to have said that he would seek an audience with the Kelantan Sultan to obtain the ruler’s consent on the state’s representative in the committee.

The committee will be chaired by former chief justice Tun Abdul Hamid Mohamad and the members will comprise legal experts from within and outside the country, and representatives from the Pahang, Kelantan and Terengganu state governments consented to by the sultan of the respective states. — Bernama
