Tsonga out of Cincinnati Masters after accident

PARIS: France’s Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has been forced to withdraw from next week’s Cincinnati Masters after injuring himself in an accident in Toronto, his agent said on Friday.

“Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has had to pull out of the Cincinnati tournament because of an unfortunate accident on Thursday in the streets of Toronto,” his agent said in a statement.

“Jo had to have eight stitches in his right knee and has been told to rest for ten days. His participation in the US Open (starting on Augut 27) is not in doubt.”

The world number six, who won silver in the Olympic doubles with Michael Llodra, suffered a first round exit from the Toronto tournament on Wednesday. — AFP
