MIRI: Kelab Sukan and Rekreasi Dayak Miri (KESUDAM) and Miri Dayak BN Youth is organising a three day Dayak Badminton (Merdeka Day) Open 2012 tournament vying for the Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom Challenge Trophy.

Tournament chairman, Caleb Jepit said the tournament will start from August 31 and ends on September at the Miri Indoor Stadium.

“The competition is open to all Dayaks in Sarawak, including those of mixed-marriages,” he stated.

He added that the tournament would be conducted in the format of Thomas Cup (Men’s Double) and Uber Cup (Women’s Double) knock-out rule.

According to Caleb, the Men’s Double must comprise four double teams inclusive of two reserve players with one each for veteran and open or at least three double teams without reserve.

The veteran player must be 43-years-old and above.

For the Uber Cup of individual women double, the team has to be comprised two players without age limit. During the match, players must bring their own shuttlecocks of type RSL Tourney No1.

Each team is required to provide at least three or four shuttlecocks per game.

Free shuttlecocks will be provided only for semi-final and final matches as well as professional referees.

On prizes, the organiser is providing attractive prizes to the winning teams.

Those who are interested can obtain the registration forms from Lutong Badminton Club, Champion, AMPM, Krokop 10, Youth Centre, Miri Indoor Stadium, BOMBA, Miri Port Club, Kelab Shell Lutong and Kuala Baram Court.

Registration fee is RM200 for Thomas Cup and RM30 for Uber Cup. Entries close on August 28.
